Financial Controller - External Reporting
My client, a leading insurance services provider with offices in Gibraltar, is looking for an FC - External Reporting.
Role Summary
• Ensure all European entities regulatory, tax, government and other external reporting requirements are met on a timely manner.
• Manage external financial commitments for the European entities.
• Ensure the accuracy of regulatory and external financial reporting, including the effectiveness of related controls, and lead successful financial audits.
• Prepare the European consolidated financial statements including board reports, while maintaining the reporting system and consolidated reports.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage the production of all annual financial statements for the Europe entities in compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards and submit to regulators on time.
• Where entities apply local GAAP, ensure accurate conversion into IFRS for consolidation purposes
• Calculate taxes for European entities and ensure timely submission of tax returns.
• Prepare and submit all financial regulatory and statistical filing for Europe in accordance with the applicable regulations.
• Liaise with actuarial teams to align financial and solvency reporting
• Review and submit external financial reports for Europe within deadlines.
• Assess and document the impact of new IFRS accounting standards, tax regulations and other new regulatory changes. This includes review of nonstandard transactions of the European regional entities and providing guidance as needed.
• Maintain the tax policies for all European entities, including transfer pricing policies
• Continuously improve to mitigate reporting risks.
• Manage a small Financial Reporting team, including performance appraisals and objective setting.
• Act as the European Regional lead, working with the Global Financial Reporting team on implementing new accounting standards, policies, and process/control changes related to external financial reporting and European consolidation.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive - Europe, Senior management or the Core team.
• Prepare Board deliverables, including but not limited to the mid-term capital plan and financial updates, on a quarterly and annual basis and ensure accurate and timely submission
Key Accountabilities
• Ensure compliance with European’s regulatory, tax, government and other external reporting, including but not limited to Solvency II, MIB, IPT, Flood-Re, FCA, on a quarterly and annual basis. Ensure timely submission within stipulated deadlines, following the correct internal governance process.
• Manage internal and external audit requirements for Europe to ensure that the deadline and deliverables are met.
• Ensure audit management letter points are addressed and minimize re-occurrence.
• Review and interpret technical accounting standards applicable to the Europe entities to present accurate financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare Board deliverables to the Europe entities Boards and ensure timely submission within
• stipulated deadlines, following the correct internal governance process
• Assist in establishing and ensuring compliance with relevant internal controls and procedures.
Person Specification
1. Technical Accounting Expertise & Industry experience
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and Solvency II regulations
• Strong understanding of prudential regulatory frameworks (e.g., Solvency II, Basel III, BMA regulations, NAIC, etc.)
• Preparation and review of statutory and regulatory financial statements
• Experience in the insurance industry
• Tax transfer pricing knowledge
2. Regulatory Reporting Knowledge
• Hands-on experience in preparing and submitting reports to financial regulators
• Familiarity with regulatory templates and tools
• Experience interpreting and implementing new regulatory requirements
3. Financial Control & Oversight
• Establishing and maintaining financial control frameworks
• Experience with internal and external audits (coordination, support, resolution of findings)
4. System Proficiency
• Preferred proficiency in general ledger systems (e.g Great Plains Dynamics)
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, macros)
• Experience with regulatory reporting platforms
5. Leadership and Stakeholder Management
• Team leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong communication skills for engaging with senior management, regulators, and auditors
• Experience working cross-functionally (e.g., risk, actuarial, compliance, legal)
6. Qualifications
• Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA)
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in financial or regulatory reporting
Desired / Preferred Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of capital adequacy
• Familiarity with ESG-related disclosures or upcoming regulatory trends (e.g., IFRS 17, CSRD)
• Experience implementing or improving regulatory reporting processes/systems
• Familiarity with internal controls over financial reportin
• Data analytics or automation
