Management Accountant (6-9m FTC)

Role Overview
The Management Accountant plays a key role in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial information across a regulated Group with multiple legal entities and locations. Operating within a matrix reporting structure, the role supports both Group Finance objectives and local legal entity requirements, ensuring strong financial control, regulatory readiness and decision-support for the business.

Key Responsibilities
1. Management Accounting & Reporting
• Prepare monthly management accounts for the assigned legal entities, including detailed P&L, balance sheet and variance analysis and commentaries.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end close and reporting in line with Group set timetables.
• Produce high-quality management information for functional and entity-level stakeholders.
• Support the consolidation processes and Group reporting.
• Carry out balance sheet reconciliations and facilitate repayments of intercompany balances.
• Prepare legal entity statutory financial statements including supporting working files.
• Act as the primary contact during internal and external audits and respond to arising queries.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
• Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
• Track actual performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends and risks.
• Provide financial input to business planning and cost control initiatives.
• Help to model and track growth initiatives and new product offerings.

3. Accounting Systems Migration
• Assist with the migration of the accounting system from the legal entity’s legacy platform to the Group’s finance system, ensuring minimal business disruption.
• Be part of the finance workstream, including chart of accounts design, data mapping, data migration, and opening balance validation.
• Ensure accounting treatment, controls, and reporting outcomes remain compliant with accounting standards and regulatory expectations.
• Execute comprehensive testing, including reconciliation of migrated data and parallel runs as required.
• Ensure core finance processes (month end close, consolidation, intercompany, statutory and regulatory reporting) are fully supported post migration.
• Assist with updating relevant finance policies, procedures, and internal controls impacted by the system change.

4. Matrix Reporting & Stakeholder Management
• Operate effectively within a matrix reporting structure, balancing priorities of Group Finance and local legal entity management.
• Act as finance business partner to local operational teams and management while adhering to Group policies and procedures.
• Escalate issues appropriately across functional and entity reporting lines.

5. Financial Controls & Governance
• Ensure compliance with Group accounting policies, internal controls and delegated authorities.
• Maintain strong balance sheet ownership and supporting reconciliations.
• Assist with regulatory and statutory and tax reporting as required.
• Oversee outsourced arrangements and local service providers.

6. Process Improvement & Systems
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting efficiency.
• Support finance transformation initiatives, including systems and automation enhancements.
• Ensure effective use of finance systems and data integrity.

Candidate Profile:

Essential Experience & Skills
• Qualified or part qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Experience as a Management Accountant within financial services or another regulated environment.
• Prior experience to insurance companies is desirable.
• Strong technical accounting and management reporting skills.
• Experience working across multiple legal entities or business units.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a matrix environment.
• Advanced Excel skills and experienced at producing reports and power point presentations.
